During October 2009 several events took place in Butetown to find out what the local community would like to see in the Community Flexible Space. These events included Live Music by DJ’S from Radio Cardiff who played International music ranging from Reggae to East African and Middle Eastern to Asian. Families and children alike joined in the fun activities which ranged from face painting, balloon modelling and henna tattooing. Free vouchers enabled members of the community to purchase any items from local business in Loudoun Square and Free T Shirt & Caps were issued which displayed the Logo of CCHA & Butetown’s Back2Back project fashionably spreading the word throughout Butetown and further a field.
A Women Only Consultation also took place and was well attended by the women of Butetown. The event took place at Red Sea House on Maria Court on Thursday 13th October with over 60 women taking part in the consultation. This event was hosted by female members of staff from Cardiff Community Housing Association. A lot of discussion and thought sharing about the community flexible space and the wider scheme took place and we have received excellent ideas and feedback through this consultation.
A further fun day took Place in Loudoun Square on Wednesday 14th October, there were fun activities for all, food and prize draws which was supported by Radio Cardiff. Again a lot of discussion and thought sharing took place about the Loudoun Square Scheme.
The final Consultation took place in the Yemeni Community Centre. There was in depth discussion and thought sharing about the different activities and events that the Yemeni community would like to see in the community flexible space and also a lot of interest about the residential accommodation. Free food was provided by a local business and was well received by all.
You can see the results of the consultation here.
