About Cardiff Council

Regenerating local neighbourhoods is a key priority for Cardiff Council which contributes to the Proud Capital Vision of creating attractive and sustainable communities.

The Council’s Local Centres Strategy recognises the role of such Centres in providing essential community services and facilities for residents. Under the Council’s Local Centres Strategy, a number of centres across the city have already been redeveloped ( Trowbridge, Pentwyn Drive) or upgraded (Gabalfa Avenue, Beechley Drive).

Loudoun Square was identified a number of years ago as in need of comprehensive regeneration and, from the initial community consultations carried out by the Council, new health facilities, shops, community spaces and affordable housing were highlighted as priorities.

Based on these priorities, partnership working with Cardiff Community Housing Association, the Local Health Board and the local community has enabled a bold redevelopment scheme to be brought forward which will transform the heart of Butetown.
