The Tiger Bay Awareness and Information Fun Day, which was sponsored by CCHA and Leadbitter, took place on Saturday 15th May 2010. The event was very successful, attracting around 1,500 people. The community organisations that hosted the event worked exceptionally hard to make it a success and there was a great atmosphere all day.
There were a number of service providers and organisations who provided information to the local community regarding their services. CCHA shared a stall with Leadbitter and spoke with a number of local people regarding the development at Loudoun Square - 21 staff from CCHA attended the event. Radio Cardiff was in attendance and performed all day with local artists singing and rapping live!
On the green area there was a large slide, rodeo bull, bouncy castle, assault course and face painters. There was also an area serving hot food and a barbeque staffed by community volunteers who served throughout the event.
The Butetown Community Centre catered for the elders of Butetown, where teas and cakes were served plus a range of hot international foods. There was also a display depicting the history of Tiger Bay, which proved popular.
The Butetown Youth Pavilion/Yemeni Centre catered for the kids and there was a women-only event inside the Pavilion building. Multi-national cuisine was also served by a Yemeni and Somali group supported by Safer Wales and the Somali Women's organisation. Outside, the Council's Play Workers (sponsored by CCHA and Leadbitter) provided fun activities for the under-5s whilst the Butetown Communities First Team catered for the 11+ age group with a play zone.
